I thought I knew good beer, but I couldn't have been more wrong. One of these bottles is filled with a beer that was brewed in a oak barrel that was the home of a very expensive whiskey for 18 years. The other is filled with a beer brewed with coffee beans that have been through the digestive system of a feline. Both are very smooth and unforgettable. At about $23 a bottle, it may be a special occasion kinda beer.

So I bought myself a new toy for Christmas..

I've been searchin for this truck forever, but they hold their value so damn well that everyone was askin a ton of money for their trucks that had a ton of miles on them... Then I stumbled upon this gem. A 2006 Toyota Tacoma w/ TRD off-road package. The owner used it as a back up vehicle and only put 12,500 miles on the damn thing. It's pretty much brand new. And he was asking less than all those other clowns that had over 100k miles on theirs. Long story short, I got it for 500 bucks less than he was asking.

Oh yeah, its a stick shift too! So my first week of learning how to drive stick consisted of... Pick up the truck... put around Long Beach for a few days to get the feel of it... drive 500 miles up to Lake Tahoe to go snowboarding... 24" of snowfall over night... full on sideways tokyo drifts on the icy roads... then 500 miles back home a few days later. Intense...

And this reminds me of a conversation I had with Dyson while I was back home, it went like this...

Dyson: Yeah me and Emil have been goin 4-wheelin a lot lately.

Me: Sick. Luckies!

Dyson: I've been takin my jeep too.

Me: Does your jeep have 4 wheel drive?

Dyson: No... I JUST CHARGE!

NASA's Space Shuttle Discovery is set on the pad ready to launch in a few days for its last flight. You can see the boosters on the pad, but the shuttle is covered up by the tower. There are only two launches left for the Shuttle program and then, sadly, it will end.
Who let this guy that close to the shuttle?
Got to see a pretty cool airshow with the thunderbirds flying around these F-16's. Damn those guys are good.

We got lawn seats... we were kinda far back but it wasn't too bad.. It was bloody cold though.

We checked out Coronado Island the next day.. it has a killer view of.. SAN DIEGO... a whale's vagina...

Dave Hoang texted me while I was at work and told me that Converse rented out the Pink Motel Pool for a one night skate sesh to celebrate Rune Glifberg's Shoe Release. I figured this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to skate one of the most famous pools in the world. So I strapped the skateboard to the motor bike and made my way through the heart of LA at rush hour and out to the valley.

Converse re-surfaced the whole pool and added transition to parts of the shallow end so you could keep lines goin.

So a few weeks ago Seany Boy called me up and told me that tickets to Hawaii were super cheap, but you would have to fly the next week.. Super short notice. I didn't think too seriously about it.. Then T-roy texts me and says that the vert ramp at Hickam is finished and they had a sick session last night... Shit.. Now my brain starts thinkin about it.. So I check the ticket prices... $375 round trip! That's the cheapest they've been in a long time. But... there is no way in hell my boss is gonna let me go... So I walk down the hall to his office and ask him... Holy Shit! He said yes... But, there's no way in hell Jen's boss is gonna let her go.. I call her. She calls her boss, Holy Shit! He says yes... I book the tickets and off we go!

I didn't get pictures of much on this trip because I was skating my ass off. But here are some from a Barbers point "Teach the girls how to surf" Day.

All in all the trip was good. I only got to surf one day, which is a bummer but it was a fun day at Haleiwa with Issac and Sean. Got to skate with all the rippers.. T-roy, Bo, Brian, Kyle, Bremner, Captain, Jose, Bruiser. Learned how to ride a little bit of vert with Kays, Waldron, T-roy and Alf. Mike Kays hooked us up with base passes! BBQ with Rod and family at Magic Island. Hung out with my brother Eric and his lady Mary. Got to hang out with my Parents and Grandparents.. I need to start plannin my next trip back already.

ProTec Pool Party 2010

All right.. So I finally tore my lazy ass away from the Xbox long enough to do something half way productive.

Chuck got me and the lady some tickets to this years Vans Pro-tec Pool Party. Last year me and Rod went to this thing...or maybe it was the year before last?... either way I remember it was pretty fun. So I figure I'd check it out again.

This year they were skating on a brand new concreted surface Combi bowl. I heard they re-did the suface on this thing but I didn't think it would look this good. I haven't skated it yet but I heard its amazing. I just hope it doesn't get as slippery as the plaster surface did. I know for sure the surface isn't as bumpy as before.

Anyway, I borrowed my lady's little point and shoot camera which is why I couldn't zoom in that far but they pics still came out all right.

Here's a pic of Bruno Passos. He tore his knee open on a screw at Bob's ramp 4 weeks ago and didn't skate until the contest. He was still blastin some good backsides though.

Cab was there in a matching yellow attire pulling frontside rock and rolls stylish as ever

Chris Miller, as you would expect, was there killing it. I didn't stick around for the results, but I'm pretty sure he won again. He was blasting this frontside off the hip and about a quarter of the way around the round bowl.

Christain was there in some bright green shorts. Nice Backside airs.

This Backside ollie was pretty stylish. And so was the guys haircut that got in my way!

DP was there absolutely killing it. I can't even explain some of the shit he was getting away with. Dyson would have been hyped! This is some sort of crazy invert to deck check to revert in! Insane

Grosso was sporting the beer gut the whole time. But that didn't keep him weighed down..he was still pulling backsides like this. Oh, and he murdered the field in the longest slide & roll contest with a 28 block long slide & roll that got the whole place on their feet!

Lester won the overall point standing for the world cup of skateboarding. Congrats Lester!

Ngoho was smooth as ever.

Red.. Red is a mad man. He was pushing along the decks about 40 mph and powersliding into photographers. I guess he hates a crowd as much as I do. But when he did make it into the bowl, he pulled aggressive laybacks like this.

Salba never stops. I think his runs were about 2 mins a piece. He's got way too much stamina.

Shroeder pulled this frontside 50-50 probably 20 blocks. Fast as hell! I think he took a slam during his heat and I never saw him again.

Palos Verdes

Took off from work a little early yesterday and decided to hop on the streetfighter and explore some of the coastline near my house. Palos Verdes is a little peninsula that stretches out just north of Long Beach. The cliffs and coves are amazing and the views are the same. I really wanted to check some of the secluded surf spots back there.

The first stop was the Korean Friendship bell that sits up on a hill over looking the Pacific. The place is pretty relaxing.

Next I headed north and got this shot of the Trump National Golf Course. The Donald bought this strip of land that was falling into the ocean and built a golf course. What a fantastic idea?

I headed down some side streets and stumbled upon this beauty of a cove. There were million dollar mansions behind me but not a soul in sight. I think this cove could hold a nice right point break on north swells. There should be one rolling in tonight so I might try to check it out again tomorrow.

Next was the infamous Lunada Bay. This place is a very big right on the right swells but the localism here is all time. People throw rocks at you while you walk down the trail then punch you in the face if you make it to the line up and then when you get back to your car you realize your tires have been slashed. Pretty stand up citizens around here.

The sun was setting so I figured I'd get a pic of the streetfighter's silhouette. I didn't realize that the sun was going down, I was 40 miles from home and only had a limo black face mask to ride with. Needless to say, I couldn't see a damned thing on the ride home.

I guess hearing the news that Buell will be discontinued has made me want to work on the streetfighter a little bit more. Wrapping the pipes has been on the agenda for a while and I just never got around to it. So I called up Chun to help me tear the bike apart and drink some red stripes.

Both bikes in shambles. What a nightmare. I don't even know what I'm doing.

Finally got the headers off after having to drop the whole engine. Wrapped those bad boys and started the bake-off.

Figured I'd paint the muffler while I was at it.

Ok so today I decided to chop the ugly rear tail section that comes on stock buell lightnings. I didn't take any before pictures so if you wanna see what I'm talkin about just google image search "buell lightning" and take a look at the ridiculous tail on that thing.

A good garage session always starts with good beer.

Here's the culprit! The center tail section after I de-wired it and got it off the bike.

I'm not sure the best way to cut aluminum, but the angle grinder worked out.

Now I had to shave it down to look somewhat presentable because its goin back on a pretty good lookin bike.

Here it is installed on the bike with the brake light and signals hooked up.
I also had to make a quick license plate mounting bracket but failed to get pictures of it. Anyway, I think the small booty looks better than the big one..

Finally made it over to Andy's in Manoa, if you haven't been here before you need to check it out. Best sandwich and smoothie place on the island. Its worth the drive. But I think they are closed on saturdays so be careful.

Made it in time for breakfast and got some homemade banana pancakes.

Dyson's been tellin me that he's been playin in this band so we figured we sit in on their practice session.

Damn. They kill it. Street 45! Jeff Chmolack on guitar, Dyson on Drums and Marsh as a manager? Can't wait for their shows...

Finally got my sissy bar done. Its made from 3/8" round stock and a shitty welder so I probably can't have my lady sit on it. But it should hold up on its own just fine. If not my fender will drop onto the wheel, fold up and lock the wheel in place sending me skidding into a ditch, but no big deal.. haha.

After I got done playin in the garage I came upstairs to find that my baby baked me some vegan oatmeal raisin cookies! Isn't she a doll...

Damn I'm on this blog thing. I need to get back to work.

Anyway, I need to relocate my filler hole in my gas tank so that I can use every bit of space for gas. I'm movin the filler hole high up on the right. I kinda set the bung in place on the tank. And I drew out a square where I'm gonna cut the old filler hole out.

Cut the old filler hole out and cut a matching piece of sheet to take its place. Now how do I hold the extra piece in place while I weld? ... Magnets! So I went to the fridge and grabbed a couple bottle cap magnets to hold the filler piece in place while I tacked her up.

Got her all tacked up and did another mock up with the filler neck sitting in place. I'm not too stoked on the small size of the filler but I think it will have to do.

I also got some time to make a few more bends on my fender struts. Almost there, now I just gotta bend a little more and start welding.

All that garage work was really just to pass the time until DINNER! Today marks the end of a 12 day fast for me and I was more than excited to eat somethin. So I got this recipe for a portobello salad with a spicy mustard dressing outta a vegan cookbook. Not a bad little salad. The mustard dressing came out really good. The avocados in the salad mixed with the portobello's were the best. Now I have a bunch of left over salad because I made way to much for me and Jen.

Monster swell

You may have heard that California just got hit with a monter swell this past weekend. The biggest swell since I've lived here for sure. I went down to Manhattan beach pier and the waves were almost skimming the bottom of the pier. Thats about 20-25 feet! When I finally got off work we hopped in the car to go get some. Did some spot checking at some breaks that I thought would be good in a big swell but turned up empty handed.

This is californias version of sunset beach. Not very spectacular.
We finally got some surf in at a place called Sammy's. It was about 3-5 ft with about 20 guys when we first paddled out, but as the tide came in, so did the size. By the end of the session it was a solid 6ft "Hawaiian Size" Thats about 12 ft faces to californians. It was gettin pretty heavy and everyone else paddled in, so we decided it was time to go. I took off on a good 5ft wave and went down, the leash pulled right off and now I'm stuck 300 yards out with 6ft sets hittin me in the head and I have to swim in. Oh yeah this was after I haven't eaten for 10 days, due to a random lemonade fast. So I finally make it in. Board's undamaged. Good day.

Hurley Skate Night!

So my buddy Scotty from the CycleZombies shot me a text and let me know that they were gonna have a skate night at Hurley with pizza, beer and bikes. Sounded like a good time. So in the car we went.

They ended up with 5% cane sugar from Maui and 95% malt. He also hooked me up with a couple of their brand new BOMBUCHA'S! 22 oz's of love. Thanks Phillip!

So I got a call a few weeks ago from AA askin if I wanted to go to Grand Cayman to skate the Black Pearl skate park. Yes Please! We ended up not getting our itinerary's until about 5 days before we left. Its on.. Flight is scheduled for 12:50am Sunday July 5th. Me and Dyson put 2 and 2 together and figure out that we actually have to be at the airport Saturday night.. 4th of July! Needless to say when we got to the airport we were hammered. Dyson got hit by a car skating across the street after watching some fireworks. Anyway we get to the airport to meet up with the rest of the crew.. 2 of them thought that we were flying out the next night and the other one forgot his green card. Looks like we're rollin solo.

We get to atlanta, hungover and hungry. We find a little coffee shop at the airport and get some pastries. Then we do what any normal people would do while waiting for our flight. Jam the Tunes! Dyson was blasting Neil Young and people were startin to give us weird looks.

Finally we board the final leg from Atlanta to Grand Cayman. The view flying in was amazing. The landing... was not.
So we land in Cayman with no idea of where we are staying, who's pickin us up, where we are goin. And on top of that, our cell phones don't work. Luckily Mrs. Appleyard was waiting at the airport to pick us up. She decided to kidnap us and take us around the whole island since the rest of the crew hadn't arrived yet. We had an amazing lunch at a dive restaurant on the beach. The fish was so fresh, the local fishermen pretty much drive their boats up to the restaurant and off load their goods and the chefs cook it up right there.

We stopped at Rum Point, don't ask me how it got its name. But its on the north end of the island and it has a sign post that helps to direct you home.

The next day we actually had to do some skateboarding, which is hard when you are on a beautifully hot island and the humidity is 75%. Anyway, we were told that we were expected to skate a mini ramp mounted on the back of a trailer that was 5 feet off the ground. Sounds fun. The trailer was parked at an event called "Jet around Cayman" which is a jet ski race around the whole island, 55 miles and the winner finished in just over an hour. Thats about 55 miles an hour on a jet ski for an hour straight! Those guys are nuts. Well the finishing point is at public beach where we had the ramp set up for the crowd. Dyson was doing grinds right up to the end of the coping hauling. I thought he was gonna go over for sure.

There was a random pirate ship that was passing by our hotel room and I tried to snap a picture of it, but it was hiding behind some trees all pirate style.
The park was so amazing.. We were there for about 5 days and there were still areas that I never even touched. I can't wait to go back..

Oh yeah, they drive on the wrong side of the road there. This is me trying to figure it out, where did I get this car? And who let me behind the wheel?

Weekend Ride

So I took Jen for a ride through Trabuco Canyon this weekend. I've heard about the infamous Cook's Corner and all the good ridin around the area but never really checked it out. I figure since its only about 40 miles away I might as well get out there.

We got hungry along the way and had to stop for some "Macho Fries!"

Then we found a vegan food stand and had some smoothies and cookies...
All in all I think we put about 100 miles on our butts and a few bugs in our teeth..

Garage Update.

Ok so I spent some time this weekend workin on my gas tank. Had to weld in a piece to cover the hole where the tunnel used to be. I only have a wire feed welder though so I've been spending most of my time fillin pin holes.

Here's the mock up I did after closin the tunnel and mounting the headlight.

Can't wait to get back on the road for some of this...

Ink & Iron

So I actually took some time out of the garage this weekend to go to the Ink & Iron festival with the lady and Dyson and Sean. The festival was pretty rad. Its held on the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach. There was tons of tattoos, cars, bikes, bands, you name it. It was pretty cool to see this many cool cars assembled in one spot. I only saw a few bikes that I liked. Check out some of these cars though..

Here's a couple of old sporty's. The one on the left had a crazy oil bag that looked like it was an extension of the rear fender.
Here's the reflection of me and my girl in the rim of an old ford. We were sittin in the grass waitin for the Slackers to go on stage.
A bike that I ran into by the beer line. I really dig the style of this bike. Its makin me reconsider havin a high headlight. His is pretty low and it looks rad. He has a knobby on the front too. He got lazy and didn't take out the tunnel in the tank. Coulda got a little more fuel in there if he did because its mounted so high.
And this my friends... is the Slackers... They didn't play rude and reckless though. Kinda bummed us out.
The festival was fun but we didn't get to see the tattoo booths because we were rudely interrupted by the law. Pigs!

Seat makin

So I need a seat for the bike. I'm lookin for a sprung solo seat. All the damn seats on the internet are over a hundred bucks! How is it that a piece of sheet metal with some leather on it costs over a hundred bucks? I can make one of those... So I got me a piece of sheet metal from the metal yard and some bar stock to stiffin it up, and I broke out the welder.

When you're weldin' you gotta make sure you don't run a bead too long or else the metals gonna get too hot and start warpin on you. I ran mine in short sections and moved around a lot so this wouldn't happen.

I found some 1" bar stock and made some spring mounts on a lathe. Took me forever to find the tooling to do this in the shop. No one can seem to put things back where they belong so I had to hunt everything down. With the time I spent looking for tools I shoulda just bought the damn things!

Here's the seat mounted on the frame. No leather yet. Just a raw pan. I lost motivation on the seat and I think I'm gonna work on a headlight mount.

All right. So Its been a while since I posted some crap about the build. I've been pretty much living in the garage on my days off. So I had to strip down the Harley to get some parts from it. Here's a pic of the gas tank, seat, and fenders removed. It's pissing out oil too.

After that I removed the front end, rear wheel, and oil bag. That thing was a pain. Whoever came up with the crimp style hose clamps should be shot. They are impossible to remove. If anyone has any insight as to how to remove these easier please let me know. I just cut through them with some snips. Even that took forever. Oh yeah and I got tired of my hair in the process.

This is a typical night in the garage. Me and Dyson jammin to some tunes, drinkin beer, lookin at the bikes, thinkin about what I should be workin on if I wasn't drinkin beer.

Finally got the motor out. Now its time to start buildin! I never knew that my motor was covered with 1/8" of grime until I pulled it from the frame and my hands turned black. Engine brite is my friend!

Here's the first mock up I did. I think I'm gonna keep it bare metal. I like the look of it. I'll probably paint the forks black. I gotta cut into the tank to take out the tunnel too. I've heard horror stories of people exploding tanks while they weld on em. Hopefully I have better luck. But it is pretty much a bomb waiting to go off. Enclosed metal container filled with gas fumes. Next is the seat.

What can brown do for you? Well it delivered me a fine piece of equipment today. Some of you may be wondering what the hell this is. Well, right now, its just a bunch of steel welded together in an orderly fashion, but, in a few months, this will be the backbone of a two wheeled monster!

Currently, this little scoot gets me from bar to bar. She's a pretty lookin thing, but I think the time has come to tear her to pieces.

I got right on the deconstruction phase of the harley so that I could use the parts for the new bike. I haven't thought up a name for her yet so if anyone has any ideas, let me know!

Don't ask me what I was doing here. I don't even know. But it looks dangerous.

Hot Weekend!

This weekend was scorching hot!

I somehow got some tickets to the Grand Prix race in Long Beach, where they close down some of the streets downtown and have Mustangs, Porches and a bunch of other cars driftin through red lights. It was pretty crazy.

After that we went over to Charlie's house for a little Hawaiian style BBQ cuz it was so hot. I was rockin boardshorts and slippahs at 10:30 pm. Just last week we had a high of like 65 degrees. This week its over 100!

Since I moved out of Hawaii, I've missed the ocean a lot. So here's a picture that Ben took of me goin off da lip bra!
